According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, the Celtics contacted approximately 30 players after NBA free agency opened, including Gordon Hayward and Chandler Parsons.
Do the Celtics have a chance to acquire any of these players? Sean Grande joined Sports Tonight to discuss their chances.
"Even if Boston was where they wanted to go right now," said Grande. "These teams are going to match. Houston is going to match an offer for Parsons unless Melo somehow ends up there. Gordon Hayward, Utah's going to match any offer."
If they don't have a chance to land these players, why are the Celtics making these calls?
"This is how you start the process of talking to teams, gauging interest in players. Down the road when the Celtics continue to pile up those trade assets, that's how this thing's going to happen."
