On Arbella Sports Tonight, Kirk Minihane says Joel Embiid's foot surgery and previous back problems should be enough to scare any team away.
"I understand the upside is tantalizing," Minihane says of the 7-footer from Kansas. "When you have a bad back and foot at age 19, you don't get better in the 20s and 30s."
Boston Globe columnist and veteran NBA watcher Bob Ryan agrees, but thinks potential will win out over caution if Embiid is still there at No. 6 for the Celtics in the NBA Draft on Thursday night.
"Is this a Bill Walton thing?" Ryan asked, referencing another 7-footer plagued by foot problems. "My feeling is he's not getting past the Boston Celtics at six."
Said Minihane: "The way these young guys play today above the rim, it seems like there'd be a million opportunities to break that foot or hurt that back."
