The Boston Celtics continue to revamp their roster with the addition of Perry Jones III and a second-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder, while giving up a protected second-round pick.
Oklahoma City will send Boston a 2019 second-round pick from Detroit, which the Thunder acquired when they traded former Boston College standout Reggie Jackson to the Pistons last season
Jones, the 28th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, has averaged 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game throughout his career with the Thunder primarily as a reserve forward.
He saw increased playing time when Kevin Durant went down with an injury, but soon found himself back on the bench upon Durant’s return.
“The Celtics are an up-and-coming team that doesn’t really have a superstar per se. They’re looking at who should they go forward with,” his agent Bill Duffy told CSNNE.com. “For Perry, that’s a great situation to walk into.”
While Perry could be signed to an extension this fall, he is expected to become a restricted free agent next summer.
He was a player the Celtics gave serious thought to drafting in 2012, but instead opted to choose Jared Sullinger with the 21st pick and Fab Melo at No. 22.
