Celtics summer league roster features Tatum, Brown and Zizic

The Celtics will travel out west next week to start their summer league schedule. The roster is headlined by Jaylen Brown, Ante Zizic and the No. 3 pick in the 2017 draft, Jayson Tatum.

Brown, who was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie second team, will be the most experienced Celtics player.

Among the newcomers is Zizic, taken by Boston with the 23rd pick in the 2016 draft. He spent this past season playing overseas.

He will be among the more closely-watched Celtics, in large part because he is a 7-footer on a team that desperately needs help at the center position.

Boston averaged 42.0 rebounds per game last season which ranked 27th in the league.

Meanwhile, Zizic emerged as one of the more promising talents in Europe this past season in which he split time between KK Cibona and Darussafaka Dogus, the latter coached by former Cleveland Cavaliers coach (and Framingham, Mass., native) David Blatt.

In addition, Celtics fans will get their first look at Tatum, who comes into the NBA as arguably the best small forward prospect in the draft.

They will be joined by second-year guards Demetrious Jackson and Abdel Nader who are trying to play well enough to land a spot on the team’s 15-man roster for the Utah and Las Vegas summer leagues.

The Celtics open Monday against the Philadelphia 76ers and No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz in Utah at 7 p.m. CSN will carry that game and the Tuesday 7 p.m. game vs. the San Antonio Spurs in Utah. The games can also be streamed live on CSNNE.com and via the NBC Sports App for authenticated subscribers.
