Bravo, Riles, for calling out LeBron!

I grew up loathing Pat Riley. As a lifelong Celtics fan, how could I not? The dude created Showtime and gave Oliver Stone and Michael Douglas their Gordon Gekko character in Wall Street. Mr. Slick and Successful made me ill.

Today that all changed. I cheered out loud for Pat Riley. Next thing you know I’ll buy a Phil Jackson book.

“I am pissed,” said Riley when opened his end-of-the-season press conference today in Miami. Then he sent a message to LeBron James.

“You’ve got to stay together if you got the guts, and you don’t find the first door and run out of it.”

BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

The man with seven rings, the man who brought James to Miami, calls out his star player. This is fantastic because Riles is right on. Of course LBJ has the option to go elsewhere, but if he leaves Miami it is a cowardly move. My God, they've made the finals four times and won two championships in LeBron's four years in South Beach. There's nothing to think about. If James has any stones he'll stay with Miami and, as Riley put it, “not rebuild but retool.” What kind of message does it send to the rest of the team, the team you supposedly lead, when you're looking to abandon ship because you came in “second place?”

So, it seems LeBron is a gutless superstar and looking for an easier way. According to a report, he will talk to Carmelo Anthony to discuss his plans. WHHHHATTT?! That would be like Michael Jordan asking Clyde Drexler for help.

Riley went on to say it’s easy for everyone to be best buddies when you’re winning. The cement for a real bond is a laid when a team sticks together after losing.

Right again, Riles. Right again.

What are the chances LeBron was listening?
