MANCHESTER, N.H. — The logjam at shooting guard just loosened up a bit for the Boston Celtics, but not how they would have liked it to happen.

Veteran shooting guard Keith Bogans suffered a right thumb sprain in Boston's 97-85 loss to Philadelphia on Friday night.

C's head coach Brad Stevens said Bogans would probably be "out a couple weeks," but that timetable may change depending on the results from Monday, which is when he will be re-evaluated.

Team officials said Bogans had an MRI on his right thumb at New England Baptist Hospital on Saturday morning which confirmed he had a sprained thumb.

The 33-year-old guard appeared in all three preseason games for the Celtics, averaging 0.7 points per game.

His absence eases some of the congestion the Celtics are dealing with at the shooting guard position.

The player who may benefit most from Bogans' absence is MarShon Brooks.

Although Brooks has averaged 10.5 minutes in two preseason appearances this season, the former Providence College star has had to patiently wait for his turn to shine with most of the minutes in the backcourt being gobbled up by Avery Bradley, Jordan Crawford, Courtney Lee and rookie Phil Pressey.
