1st Quarter

Ainge on Brandon Bass

Brandon has had a terrific year and he has such great character, whatever his role is, he’s accepted it. He has let the young guys step in and do their thing. Brandon has been a real bright spot throughout the course of the year.

Ainge on Jerryd Bayless & Kris Humphries as Unrestricted Free Agents

(Bayless) He’s played very well for us. Mike “He seems very happy here”.  Ainge: He does, two unrestricted free agents him and Hump have played well, the coaches love them and they could play a role on any team.

Ainge on Atlanta scoring paint points in 1st qtr

It looks to me like our guys are playing hard.  It’s just that extra effort. Nobody’s really giving that 2nd, and 3rd, and 4th effort, taking the charges, diving on the loose balls. We’re sort of going through the motions on defense I feel. We’re no good enough defensively. We have to play at an extra level defensively in order to get stops. Our defense right now is a sieve.

Ainge on Kelly Olynyk and Jared Sullinger shooting 3’s

(Kelly hits 3) Beautiful shot by Kelly.  I love the fact that Kelly and Sully spread the floor. They haven’t shot a great percentage from the three point line this year, but their both increasing their range. With another summer of doing that, I really believe next year both their percentages will be up anywhere in the mid 30’s or higher and be very effective 3-point shooters.

2nd Quarter

Ainge answering Facebook question; favorite and least favorite part of being a GM;

It’s fun being a GM. I love the competition. We have great GMs in the league. The challenge of building a team is great. I love working with our ownership. I love working with the coaches I’ve been afforded to work with in my time as GM. And I love being around the players.  The least favorite part about being a GM is being a leader of an organization you really have to focus on the positive in the public all the time.  Keeping that filter on when I need to is sometimes a challenge (laughs). I love being GM of the Celtics. It is just a great city.

Ainge on relationship with other GMs

I think you develop relationships. Kevin Mchale everybody thought with the Kevin Garnett trade, Mchale was trying to do us a favor. It’s the exact opposite. Kevin wouldn’t do me a favor and we’re like brothers, we’re so close. The fact that you have relationships with people and you do have a trusting relationship with people where you can continue conversations that are good for both teams, that allows you to make deals in this league.

Ainge on Jeff Green’s season

I think Jeff’s had a good year this year. In that 1st quarter there wasn’t anything really over the top except that dunk was pretty exciting.  But he has 4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, played solid defense. Jeff has a lot of strengths as a player. I don’t think he can be your #1 guy on a championship team, but he can be a very important piece to a championship team. Mike “Are expectation levels unreasonable?” Ainge- I think so yes. I think Jeff has played fine. On top of that we’ve tried to expand Jeff’s game.  We’ve tried to have him take shots with more efficiency, had him shoot more 3’s off the dribble which aren’t as high as a percentage of shots as he is normally taking, which is mostly corner 3’s.  We tried to expand his game and his percentages have gone down a bit.  We like that he is taking those shots and with a summer of hard work he can feel better about those shots next year.

3rd Quarter

Ainge on Sullinger reshaping his body

We’ve talked a lot about it throughout the course of the year. Coming off back surgery last year he wasn’t able to do as much as he wanted to. I believe Jared will spend a lot of time in the off season in preparing himself for next year.

Ainge on Brad Stevens

I like what Coach Stevens has done in this game. He’s tried a lot different lineups. Rondo and Avery haven’t played a lot this year. This lineup hasn’t played a lot together this year. He’s gone to the bench. He’s recognized Jerryd Bayless is our hottest shooter. I like that he experimented with Jeff at the 4. You can tell that he is really into the game and he’s had to do that all year; come up with different lineups with all the injuries that we’ve had and different players. I couldn’t be happier with the job he’s done on the entire year.

Ainge answering Facebook question; Do you see opportunity to trade up or trading pick for impact star:

Everything’s open for debate and discussion. We’ll be opportunists and look for any opportunity to make our team better. The quicker the better. Like Wyc said, there’s gonna be fireworks this summer. I can’t promise that, but there will be a lot of discussion around draft time.

4th Quarter

Ainge answering Facebook question; What does Avery Bradley’s future in Boston look like? Deferes to Herren:

Herren- Avery is a phenomenal player. He has represented the Celtics extremely well. Although hampered by injuries, he’s a fighter, he’s a winner, he plays two positions. He brings a lot of value to the Boston Celtics. And I’ll tell you one thing, he’s a million dollar kid.  Ainge- Couldn’t said it better.
