BOSTON -- Tuukka Rask left Saturday's game midway through the second period with an apparent lower-body injury, forcing Tim Thomas to be thrown into action against the New York Islanders.

And Thomas allowed two goals as the Islanders defeated the Bruins 3-2 at the TD Garden.

John Tavares tipped home a Matt Moulson shot from the top of the right circle with 4:39 left to play in the game, breaking the 2-2 tie and eventually leading New York to a win.

Tyler Seguin tied the game at 2-2, 7:29 into the third period, as Zdeno Chara sent a pass up the right boards, leading Seguin in all alone and decking to his left, where put a backhander over Evgeni Nabokov's blocker and into the net.

The Islanders took a 2-1 lead into the third, thanks to Matt Moulson's power-play goal with 4:25 left in the second period.

The game was tied at 1-1 after the first period. Milan Lucic put home a loose puck out front while on a poet play, with 4:50 left in the opening period. Just over two minutes later, New York tied it at 1-1 on Josh Bailey's shot that beat Rask through his five hole.
