Carl Soderberg was again missing from the TD Garden practice ice on Saturday morning with the sprained ankle that’s now kept him out of the lineup for more than a week. Claude Julien said that the Big Swede was “getting better” on Friday, and he was eligible to come off the injured reserve as soon as today. But that won’t be happening, and instead Jordan Caron will get a second opportunity to play after looking so good opening night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It will be a good test against a Detroit Red Wings team that’s always played a couple of games, and is coming off an overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night thanks to a Stephen Weiss game-winner.

Tuukka Rask left the ice first and it appears the Finnish netminder will be getting the start for the Black and Gold. Otherwise Matt Bartkowski was one of the last skaters on the ice at the end of morning skate, and he looks to be a healthy scratch for the second straight game.

Jimmy Howard will make his third start of the season and his second in two days after backstopping the Wings to the OT win over the Canes on Friday night.

Here are the line combos and D-pairings based on morning skate:

Lucic-Krejci-Iginla
Marchand-Bergeron-Eriksson
Caron-Kelly-Smith
Paille-Campbell-Thornton

Chara-Boychuk
Seidenberg-Hamilton
Krug-McQuaid
Bartkowsi

Rask
