Saturday, Sept. 10: Setoguchi bounces back

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while warming up to the World Cup of Hockey after watching the sparks fly between the US and Canada on Friday night. That was entertaining.

*A great piece on Devin Setoguchi, who has had to battle from rock bottom to earn another shot at the NHL.

*The Florida Panthers are spending a lot of money to invest into their franchise, and that is a marked difference from their previous ownership regime.

*PHT writer Adam Gretz has all of the nasty details from the USA/Canada exhibition prior to World Cup tournament play, and there were possible injuries, potential suspensions and plenty of penalties to go around.

*Former Sabres and Predators center Paul Gaustad has retired from the NHL after a lengthy, workmanlike career.

*Peter Chiarelli gets a second chance with Kris Versteeg after shipping him away for Brandon Bochenski in one of his first deals as GM of the Boston Bruins. Versteeg has signed a PTO with the Edmonton Oilers, and could be a steal for that team as a depth forward.

*FOH (Friend of Haggs) Elliotte Friedman has the NHL introducing some new concussion protocol, including four independent spotters that will have the power to take players out of the game.

*For something completely different: an inside look at the classic coffee shop scene between Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro in Heat.
