Morning Skate: Shouldn't these numbers be retired?

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while knowing that when it comes to 98 Mile or anything else…you’ve got to beat the man to be the man. And Dan Roche is “the man” right now.

*Sean McIndoe has the five retired NHL players who, surprisingly, haven’t had their number retired with former Bruins D-man Brad Park making the list. That’s a tough call given that his career was pretty equally split between the Rangers and the B’s.

*John Tavares says that he wants to remain a member of the New York Islanders even as speculation continues to mount that he’ll end up elsewhere.

*The Carolina Hurricanes are for sale and all somebody needs to do to pay for it is find a cool $500 million.

*Will the Buffalo Sabres make enough progress this season to finally make it back into the Stanley Cup playoffs after a rough couple of seasons?

*Speaking of the Sabres, PHT writer Joey Alfieri wonders what Jack Eichel’s contract is going to look like as another elite player that will win big on his second deal. One would imagine he’s going to get something a little above and beyond what Leon Draisaitl and David Pastrnak will command in the coming weeks.

*New York Islanders defenseman Calvin De Haan has avoided arbitration on a one-year deal with the Isles. It’s amazing how arbitration forces these last minute deals right before the hearing is supposed to get started, as happened with Ryan Spooner as well.

*For something completely different: This Trump and the Patriots column is certainly going to aggravate a lot of people.
