Morning Skate: Sedin Twins' ‘Dear Vancouver' letter

Share

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while hoping Sergio Dipp gets another chance to work in “Boom Goes the Dynamite” the next time he’s on Monday Night Football.

*Daniel and Henrik Sedin pen a letter to the city of Vancouver on the Players Tribune, and show why they will forever be linked in a close relationship with that community.

*The Buffalo Sabres hope they can sign Jack Eichel to a long term deal soon, but it’s not going to be cheap, as the Bruins are finding out with David Pastrnak.

*It’s the start of a new era for Ron Hainsey as he gets going with the Toronto Maple Leafs after finally tasting the playoffs last spring.

*Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli believes that he can build a Cup contender around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. We’ll see if that holds true after signing both players to mega-deals, but McDavid is certainly a great building block to have. Hockey fans in Boston are blaming Chiarelli for the current contract troubles between the Bruins and David Pastrnak, but this isn’t just about Draisaitl. It’s about Evgeny Kuznetsov, it’s about Ryan Johansen and it’s about a market shift for young elite players. Heck, it’s about Vladimir Tarasenko a couple of years ago, who is absolutely a comparable player to Pastrnak at this point in his career.

*Some think that the Bruins missed a major opportunity by taking Urho Vaakanainen over Jake Oettinger in the first round this summer. I think they should have taken small, skilled forward Kailer Yamamoto instead of Vaakanainen, but time will tell about all of this.

*For something completely different, sounds like another X-Men Universe film is in the works and this one sounds like it could be pretty good with Deadpool and Cable.
