SASKATOON – It looks like Ryan Spooner will get a nice final dress rehearsal with the Bruins.
David Krejci is out of Friday night’s lineup with back spasms that flared up during the morning skate at the Credit Union Centre, and instead Spooner will be centering the high-powered duo of Milan Lucic and Jarome Iginla. Claude Julien delivered the news about an hour before the preseason finale against the Winnipeg Jets with less than a week remaining until the regular season.
“It’s nothing serious,” assured Julien.
Spooner has been excellent with four points (1 goal, 3 assists) in five games for the Black and Gold during the preseason, but is running into issues as a top six center with Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci blocking his way. The 21-year-old hasn’t been used as a wing during the exhibition season, which could have put him in the running for a vacant spot on the third line.
Instead it appears the Bruins view Spooner as a center, plain, pure and simple, and he’ll get a chance to play with a couple of stud power forward wingers in likely his last appearance with the NHL club before being sent down to the AHL. But you know if Spooner once again dominates the competition with his speed and playmaking ability as he’s done in each of his preseason appearances this year...
