The Bruins were coming off a 3-2 loss in Pittsburgh, their second loss in a row. Their opponent Thursday night, the Anaheim Ducks, were in Boston, well-rested and waiting for them.
The B's managed to tie the score in the third period and prevail in the shootout on Jarome Iginla's goal for a 3-2 victory that coach Claude Julien called a "gutsy effort."
For us to come out here and play a gritty game and battle right to the end against a team that was fresh and waiting for us here, if anything, I'd call it a gutsy effort," Julien said.
It wasn't pretty, but defenseman Torey Krug will take it.
"We didn't have the greatest game but at the end of the day we got the two points and move on from there.
The B's move on to visit the New York Islanders on Saturday night.
