Haggerty's Morning Skate: What's NHL's expansion hurdle?

Here are the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while truly convinced that Donald Trump’s plan is to make the Republican Party look as bad as humanly possible.

*Good stuff on Todd Bertuzzi and a second shot in the city of Vancouver after things went horribly wrong for him there with the Steve Moore incident.

*The drafting of Nail Yakupov completely derailed the Oilers rebuild, according to the opinion makers in Edmonton. I think that’s a little strong. Drafting a D-man or a goalie along the way probably would have been advisable instead of Yakupov, though, in hindsight.

*It sounds like the expansion draft could be a hurdle to any NHL expansion vote among the Board of Governors, according to Frank Seravalli.

*NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says that the salary cap is projected to go up as high as $74.5 million for next season, which would be an extra $3.1 million for teams next season.

*Ray Bourque and the Avalanche greats were united as part of the 20th Anniversary team for the Colorado Avs on Monday.

*The Calgary Flames are hoping to ride parity into an unlikely playoff spot after their awful start, but the odds are against them.

*Don Cherry talks goalie equipment, concussions and the evolution of the game of hockey. I’m always down to listen to Grapes wax philosophic about the state of hockey.

*For something completely different: I knew Herald writer Bruce Lerch a little bit from my days covering high school sports, and it’s such a tragedy to have a guy pass at such a young age.
