Haggerty's Morning Skate: Subban continues Beliveau's work

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading with the start of main NHL training camp finally upon us.

*A great story from FOH (Friend of Haggs) Dave Stubbs about PK Subban following in the footsteps of Jean Beliveau with his philanthropy.

*Puck Daddy scribe Sean Leahy puts together a preview for the Bruins where they are embracing change. A good piece, but I would quibble with one detail: trading a rental player in his walk year in Milan Lucic was absolutely straight “business” for the Bruins, and was not the “shakeup” trade of a player that was leaving at the end of the year anyway. Dealing away a potential franchise piece in Dougie Hamilton was anything but “business.” The Hamilton deal happened because his side wasn’t responding to any of Boston’s contract offers, and the threat of an offer sheet was looming heavily on July 1. That’s not business. That’s a reaction to a hostile negotiation, and then making the best of the situation.

*Penguins GM Jim Rutherford has “absolutely no concerns” about Phil Kessel’s reputation on the eve of training camp in Pittsburgh.

*Daniel Carcillo announced his retirement via the Players’ Tribune after a colorful career as an enforcer and shift-disturber.

*Sportsnet also has their team preview for the 2015-16 Bruins with all kinds of storylines headed into training camp.

*Elliotte Friedman has his 30 Thoughts with some Bruins material and what the Slava Voynov return to Russia without Love could mean for all involved.

*Interesting tidbit from 98.5 Felger and Mazz update guy Big Jim Murray on the issues that faced the Bruins last season.

*TSN has lenders saying that bankrupt NHL star Jack Johnson was complicit in the reckless borrowing by his parents.

*For something completely different: some funky Star Wars pop art here, though it would be a lot cooler if they were edible.
