CHICAGO – It’s an experience that has become uniquely Chicago for the Boston Bruins whenever they visit the Windy City during the regular season. The Bruins showed up at Johnny’s Icehouse West for an hour-long skate because the Chicago Bulls have a home game at the United Center on Saturday night. Even better they had to “dress and drive”, putting their equipment on at the United Center and then riding the bus all geared up and ready to jump on the ice as soon as they walked into the building.

“The last time I did the [dress and drive] was definitely in this building a few years ago,” said Shawn Thornton. “Before that I’d have to go back a long way to remember the last time it happened.”

It’s the first time some of the players had done it since their youth hockey days, and the first time for many of the Bruins players since they did it four years ago during a road trip through Chicago. The practice itself consisted of an hour on the ice with full attendance from the players, and former Blackhawks winger Shawn Thornton leading the team stretch following the session.
