Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara was named one of three Norris Trophy finalists on Monday afternoon.
He is joined by Detroit Red Wing Nicklas Lidstrom and Nashville Predator Shea Weber as finalists for the top NHL honor among defensemen. The trophy is awarded to "the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-around ability in the position."Chara nowhas a one-in-three chance of nabbing the Norris Trophy for the second time in three years after the big 6-foot-9 Bs defenseman was named as one of the three finalists along with fellowrearguard greats inLidstrom and Weber.Given the adversity that Chara has had to fight through with the reams of bad press in Montreal after the Max Pacioretty hit and the virus that knocked him out for Game Two of the playoff series, the Bruins Captain was appropriately humbled by the honor. Its obviously a big honor. Im very humbled and very thankful especially when you consider how many guys have had good seasons and breakout seasons, said Chara. Im just thankful that the people that did vote recognize the definition of the Norris Trophy award.Chara received the honor once for the 2008-2009 season and Lidstrom is a six-time winner. Last year's recipient was Chicago Blackhawk Duncan Keith. The B's defenseman amassed 44 points this season and his plus-33 was the best among defenseman in the NHL.Joe Haggerty can be reached at jhaggerty@comcastsportsnet.com.Follow Joe on Twitter at http:twitter.comHackswithHaggs
