BruinsSharks: 5 from the Second

CSNNE.comBOSTON Here are five thoughts from the second period with the Bruins trailing the San Jose Sharks by a 1-0 score after the first 40 minutes at the TD Garden.1)I absolutely called Zach Hamill by the name Mark Hamill during a tweet about the first period. 2)A great defensive effort by the Bruins. Theyve only allowed 11 shots on net to San Jose through two periods of hockey, and the Sharks only score is a power play goal by Logan Couture on a neutral zone turnover by the Bs. The defense is doing their job today headed by Andrew Ference, who has blocked four shots.3)Three power plays from the Bruins and only one shot on net. That needs to change if the Bs want to win the game, and thats been the difference right now in a defense-first game.4)Really physical game along the boards and in the corners today, and right now the Bruins arent winning enough of them especially in front of the net. Only one second chance opportunity for the Bs when Lucic missed the net on the rebound in the first, and that appears to be the only way theyre going to score. Nathan Horton, David Krejci, Tyler Seguin and Zach Hamill need to be stronger on the puck this afternoon if the Bs are going to score.5)Big call taking the Douglas Murray goal back on incidental contact when Ben Eager was tied up with Tim Thomas, and Thomas was having a long conversation with ref Gord Dwyer later in the period about getting an interference call or two.6)Big mistake by the San Jose bench getting an unsportsmanlike conduct while pressuring in the offensive zone while Nathan Horton was without a stick. The Bruins couldnt capitalize on the power play, though.
