BOSTON -- The last time the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning met, the game ended with the Bs celebrating a Stanley Cup Finals berth.

Five months later, the two teams faced off Saturday night at TD Garden for their first match up of the regular season. The final score yielded the same outcome -- a 'W for the home team.

The Bruins (1-1-0) earned their first win of the season with a 4-1 victory behind two goals from Rich Peverley and 25saves by Tim Thomas.

After combining for 25 shots on goals in a scoreless first period, both teams came out attacking in the second. Peverley scored off an assist from Brad Marchand and Johnny Boychuk just over two minutes into the second period. 76 seconds later, Martin St. Louis returned the favor with a goal from Ryan Malone and Vincent Lecavalier (St. Louiss second goal of the season, 300th NHL career). The 1-1 tie lasted less than two minutes when Daniel Paille scored from Adam McQuaid and Tyler Seguin.

Heightened emotions followed thereafter. Both teams were called for six penalties apiece in the second period (doubled from the first period), including Dominic Moore and Marchand being called for roughing after scuffling to the ice.

The Bruins held the Lightning (1-1-0) scoreless in the third period while David Krecji scored from Milan Lucic and Seguin, and Peverley added his second goal of the night from Patrice Bergeron and Marchand.

The Bruins will face the Colorado Avalanche on Monday afternoon at TD Garden.
