The Bruins have released their preseason schedule and it doesn’t contain stops in any of the Canadian outpost cities the Black and Gold have visited in recent years, such as Quebec City, Halifax or Saskatoon.
The preseason does open with the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre, the Original Six rival of the B’s that snuffed out their season in the second round of the playoffs.
This isn’t much of a departure, however, as the B’s opened the preaseason last year vs. the Habs at the Bell Centre and have traveled to Montreal for preseason games just about every year in recent memory. The hard feelings that developed in the second-round series – and the subsequent handshake line threats made by Milan Lucic to Alexei Emelin and Dale Weise – could make the preseason opener a little more interesting than normal, however.
The preseason can be one of those times when a player opts to settle matters leftover from when he couldn’t break discipline in the postseason. Either way it’s sure to be a typical preseason slugfest between the two ancient foes. Here is the rest of the preseason that includes road games in Montreal, Detroit, Washington D.C. and the Bridgeport, Conn., home of the Islanders AHL team:
Tuesday, Sept. 23: at Canadiens (Bell Centre, Montreal, 7:30 p.m.)
Wednesday, Sept. 24: vs. Washington (TD Garden, 7 p.m.)
Friday, Sept. 26: at Washington (Verizon Center, Washington, 7 p.m.)
Saturday, Sept. 27: at Detroit (Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, 7 p.m.)
Tuesday, Sept. 30: vs. New York Islanders (TD Garden, 7 p.m.)
Friday, Oct. 3: vs. New York Islanders (Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport, CT, 7:30 p.m.)
Saturday, Oct. 4: vs. Detroit (TD Garden, 5:30 p.m.)
The NHL regular season schedule is set to be released on Sunday.
