Spain exits World Cup with face-saving win over Australia

Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the Brazil 2014 World Cup, Spain, saved face with a 3-0 win over Australia in their final match. Goals by David Villa, Fernando Torres, and Juan Mata secured a much needed victory for a Spanish side that was not willing to take another humiliation.

Vicente del Bosque sent an alternative line-up to the field, leaving players like Xavi and Iker Casillas on the bench. Both players will join David Villa, Xabi Alonso, and a few others who have probably played in their last World Cup.

David Villa put Spain ahead with a magical back-heel finish in the 35th minute. With this goal, Villa has now scored in three different World Cups: three in Germany 2006 and five in South Africa 2010.
