Soccer appears to be on the rise in the United States, and the World Cup has played a big role.
The question is, what impact will the United States' World Cup run have on the MLS?
"Slight," said Merloni. "The problem with the MLS, and the reason why it will never be that huge in America, is because it's to only one of the major sports where the best in the world don't play. The best in the world don't play in the MLS, they play in the Premier League."
Michael Felger sees the World Cup making a larger impact on the game.
"This is not something that happens overnight, it's not something that happens in the next couple years," said Felger. "In 10 years we will look back and say these were the building blocks that got soccer to a pretty high level in this country."
