Welcome to Bobby Valentine Day!

Share

Today is the Red Sox first day off since April 22. Its also their last day off until May 24.

Add it all up, thats 31 days with only one day off. And with all that's jam-packed in between, you'd figure that everyone involvedthe players, coaches, hell even the ownerswould use that day to get away from the madness.

You know, hang around the house. Watch some TV. Do disgusting things with ice cream.

And this afternoon, I bet a bunch of the guys are doing exactly that.

But, believe or not, Bobby Valentine is not one of those guys.

How could he be?

It's Bobby Valentine Day on Cape Cod!

First of all, let me say that I don't care that Valentine spent the day celebrating himself on the Cape. This isn't about questioning his commitment, or criticizing his personality.

I just think it's hilarious.

If you didn't watch, at least check out the scene at the 40-second mark, as Valentine walks through the outfield that he patrolled as a 17-year-old Cape League "phenom."

At one point, he's struck by this memory of the time he was on first base, and the pitcher broke into an epileptic seizure on the mound. He starts to paint this real dramatic picture, and you're not sure where it's going until obviously, young Bobby Valentine saves the day by sprinting to a near by house (hurdling a fence in the process) and calling for help.

I smell another Bobby V Day!

Anyway, from the looks of it, Valentine had himself quite the afternoon. He participated in a press conference (that was shown LIVE on local cable access), he received a proclamation from the town of Yarmouth, hung with a bunch of middle schoolers and talked about taffy. Whatever. It's a lot more fun than the day I had.

But it's also Bobby V being very Bobby V.
