Red Sox in Outer Space

Share

This morning on Twitter, I saw a picture of the Grand Canyon from outer space.

I cant post it here for copyright reasons, so on the count of three everyone check it out.

Ready?

One . . . Two . . . I swear its worth it . . . Three.

This might be the stupidest thing Ive ever written, but I honestly cant tell if this is a photo or a paintingdrawinggraphic design project. I'm pretty sure it's one of the latter, but not positive. Either way, I love it.

Most pictures we see of Earth from the same crazy distance. You know the one Im talking about. It's the same picture that we've seen our entire lives: strips of green, globs of blue, a few white clouds sprinkled throughout.

But this is different. (Here's the link again if you want another look). Even if it's completely fake, I love the concept of viewing Earth from outer space, but still being close enough to make out Earth's unique features. It's a real cool perspective.

It also reminds me of the Red Sox.

After all, that's pretty much where we are with these guys.

One on hand, expectations have shifted into a different stratosphere. The reality of this team even making the playoffs, never mind a run at another title, is barely visible and only getting worse. You get the feeling that it won't be long before the season fades into a generic blob; like so many forgotten ones before it.

But for now, we aren't quite there. For now, you can still make out a few unique and spectacular qualities that make this team special. You see 4.5 games, which is still only 4.5 games. Last night, you saw that Lester isn't completely out of gas. In Will Middlebrooks, you saw that they're not totally void of heroics. In Pedroia, you see the frustration; that these guys still have the will and desire to win. Even in defeat, this team shows flashes of being able to compete at the level we all expect and make something of this once promising season.

But it's fading away at ludicrous speed.
