DALLAS -- Bobby Valentine has been in contact -- mostly by phone -- with most of the roster in the last few days.
He may head from here down to Houston to see Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett, who both live in the greater Houston area.
"I reached out," said Valentine. "Carl's the one guy who doesn't answer the phone, so I haven't left a voice mail. I told Josh on my message, 'I'm going to be in Texas; if you want me to scoot down and say hello and allow him to put his cowboy boot up my butt'... we can start fresh anytime."
The latter is a reference to Valentine's criticism of Beckett on ESPN telecasts last summer. Valentine chastised Beckett for being so deliberate on the mound in between pitches."
