Ex-Sox lefty Richardson receives 50-game suspension

Ex-Red Sox left-hander Dustin Richardson, who was traded to Florida for Andrew Miller in the 2010 offseason and is currently a free agent, received a 50-game suspension Wednesday for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Minor-league first baseman Daryle Ward also received a 50-game suspension.

Richardson, who appeared in 29 games for the Sox in the 2009 and 10 seasons with a 3.31 ERA, tested testing for an amphetamine, Letrozole and metabolite, Methandienone metabolite, Methenelone and metabolite, and Trenbolone and metabolite. Ward tested positive for an amphetamine. Both players will have to serve their 50-game suspension are effective immediately upon signing with a Major League team.
