The Red Sox had discussions with free agent Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, but he'll be making his home elsewhere in the AL East: New York.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, Tanaka has signed a seven-year deal with the Yankees worth $155 million. Tanaka also has the ability to opt-out of his new contract after his fourth year.
The deal makes Tanaka the fifth-highest paid pitcher in baseball behind only Los Angeles' Clayton Kershaw, Detroit's Justin Verlander, Seattle's Felix Hernandez and Tanaka's new teammate CC Sabathia.
The Yanks shelled out $20 million to pay the posting fee for Tanaka, putting their total expenses for Tanaka's services at $175 million.
