Yankees blast Sox, 10-3

NEW YORK -- If the Red Sox were hoping that their first visit to Yankee Stadium this season would introduce some urgency to their game, they found out otherwise Friday night.

Instead, the Sox appeared flat again, victimized by some sloppy play in the field and the long ball, dropping a 10-3 decision to the Yankees. It was Boston's sixth loss in seven tries against
the Yanks this season and sixth loss in their last seven games overall, dropping them a season-high 11 12 games out of first place in the division.

Both sides swatted three homers, but while each one struck by the Sox came with the bases empty, the Yankees belted two two-run shots and a grand slam.

After Dustin Pedroia homered for the second straight game to give the Sox a 1-0 lead in the first, Mike Aviles's failure to turn a double play came back to haunt the Sox in the bottom of the inning when Raul Ibanez drove a pitch out to right against starter Aaron Cook.

Cook gave up a run in the bottom of the third and a two-run blast to Russell Martin in the bottom of the fourth. He didn't return for the fifth.

The Sox got solo homers from Carl Crawford -- his first of the season -- in the third and Jarrod Saltalamacchia -- his 20th -- in the fourth.

Curtis Granderson capped the scoring with an eighth-inning grand slam off reliever Mark Melancon.
