Would skipping a start benefit Lester?

The Jon Lester of April appears to be long gone.

Since his impressive 6-0 start, the Red Sox starting pitcher has lost his last three decisions, including Tuesday night against the Rays when he gave up seven runs in 42/3 innings pitched to inflate his ERA to 4.12 for the season.

While there seems to be no solution for Lester's recent struggles, Lou Merloni doesn't think the team can afford to let the lefty skip his next start to work on his mechanics.

"Depth is already tested in this rotation, I don't know how many arms you can go back to," Merloni said. "You double-headers, you got [Clay] Buchholz, I don't see it happening. I think mechanically Lester's been around, [manager John] Farrell's familiar with him, [pitching coach Juan] Nieves has now worked with him for some time [with] video, bullpens. I think you make their tweaks during starts."
