Who gets the most credit for the Boston Red Sox capturing the 2013 World Series title? Well, at the top of the list has to be the guy who made the right moves to bring key players to Boston, Ben Cherington.
Michael Holley, Dan Shaughnessy, Sean McAdam, and Steve Buckley discussed Ben Cherington’s contribution to the championship on Sports Sunday.
“You have to give Ben a ton of credit,” McAdam said. “Not only for the deal with the Dodgers which frees up all this money, but all the free agent moves he made. Almost every one of them hit. That never happens.”
Not even a week removed from the World Series victory, Cherington will have some tough decisions to make regarding the current roster, starting with Jacoby Ellsbury.
“Ellsbury not a bad guy, a good player here, everybody likes him,” Shaughnessy said. “He has earned his free agency. He is going to take advantage of that. If the Sox are willing to outbid the other 29 teams, he’s theirs. I don’t think they will.”
With some decisions coming up for Cherington, can he make the right decisions again, like he did this year to gain most of the credit for a World Series title.
