The Red Sox start the second half of the season on top of the AL East. Still, could the Sox be able to improve themselves at the July 31 trading deadline?

Can the starting rotation use a boost via trade? How about the lineup? Lou Merloni, Bob Neumeier and Boston Globe columnists Dan Shaughnessy and Chris Gasper discuss the team's needs on "Uno Sports Tonight."

Shaughnessy is worried that a deal that sheds the Sox's prospects might be short-sighted and warned against trading "at the peril of [top prospect] Xander Bogaerts or any of those guys you need to take care of.

Gasper: "I think it's go big or go home. You're not talking about getting a fourth or fifth starter here. It's Cliff Lee or Matt Garza."

Merloni: "I love Cliff Lee, but I don't think the Phillies have to sell."

Even if the Phillies fall out of contention, Merloni sees them rebuilding around Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels.

As for the offense, Neumeier wonders if the team can keep up its league-leading run-scoring pace.

"I don't think Jose Iglesias is going to hit .367 in the second half," Neumeier said. "Can David Ortiz keep it up?"

Shaugnessy said flatly that he's sticking to his preseason prediction of the Red Sox not being "a world championship team" and is wary of mortgaging the future in any trade.
