Jacoby Ellsbury is due for a new contract at the end of the season, and with the center fielder experiencing a slight resurgence this season he may not be easy to re-sign.
On The Baseball Show Sean McAdam, Lou Merloni and Dan Shaugnessy took a look at Ellsbury's numbers and compared him to similar players in the league that have recently signed big contracts. Merloni estimated that Ellsbury could command a contract five years in length worth upwards to $75 million based on the contract the Atlanta Braves gave B.J. Upton recently.
But would the Red Sox be willing to sink a lot of money into Ellsbury, or are they ready to hand the keys to center field over to Jackie Bradley Jr.?
"I think it's going to be difficult for them to meet," Shaughnessy said. "I don't see him staying here."
