Valentine calls out Rays' coaches

BOSTONRed Sox manager Bobby Valentine upped the ante before the second game of the three-game series against the Rays, calling Tampa Bays coaches immature and unprofessional for the actions in the ninth inning when both benches emptied after Luke Scott was hit by a Franklin Morales pitch.

As a matter of fact, I took offense to the aggressiveness of their coaches, Valentine said. I thought it was very unprofessional and I really was proud of the way my coaches were trying to do what they were supposed to do in those situations. They seemed very immature and out of control.

While coaches from both sides seemed unusually upset during the melee, Valentine called out the Tampa Bay pitching staff.

Coaches are supposed to try to stop things from happening and their coaches were actually aggravating and agitating and instigating, Valentine said.

Valentine was pleased with the decorum of his own staff during the incident
