Talking Points: Red Sox 8, Nationals 7

STAR OF THE GAME: Red Sox bullpen

The night didn't begin well for Red Sox relievers when Alexi Ogando allowed two inherited runners to score on a triple by Michael Taylor, the first hitter he faced. But from then on, the Sox got 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, capped by the first save of the season from Koji Uehara

HONORABLE MENTION: Dustin Pedroia

Pedroia was on base four times with three hits and a walk. His fourth inning homer gave the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. He also scored a run.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Justin Masterson

Masterson allowed too many baserunners -- eight hits, three walks and two hit batsman -- in just 4 2/3 innings. Worse, he couldn't hold on to a 5-1 lead in the sixth inning, necessitating a lot of work for the Sox' bullpen.

TURNING POINT: In the seventh inning, trailing by two, the Red Sox took full advantage of the Nationals' generosity, turning three errors and two hit batsman into a three-run seventh inning -- without the benefit of a single base hit.

BY THE NUMBERS: The victory allowed the Red Sox to win the series. They've now won their first three series of the season for the first time since 1952.
