Talking Points: Phillies 4, Red Sox 2

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Jeff Francoeur

The light-hitting outfielder smacked a three-run homer to left in the sixth, giving the Phillies all the offense they would need.

HONORABLE MENTION: Aaron Harang

Looking like he turned back the clock about 10 years, Harang limited the Red Sox to just two hits over 6 1/3 innings, while striking out eight and walking just one.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Rick Porcello

Porcello blanked the Phils over the first five innings but with two on and one out in the sixth, hung a breaking ball that Francoeur hammered out to left.

TURNING POINT: In the eighth inning, with the bases loaded, Hanley Ramirez lofted a pitch from Jonathan Papelbon deep to left. But the ball died in deep left and was caught on the warning track, ending the threat, costing Ramirez his second grand slam in as many games.

BY THE NUMBERS: The home run by Francoeur was his first since June of
2013.
