After a 14-inning, 10-8 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night, the Boston Red Sox had to reshuffle their pitching staff on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Sox announced that Clayton Mortensen has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain. Jose De La Torre has been called up to take Mortensen's place on Boston's 25-man roster.
While Mortensen pitched a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's win, his ERA is up over five for the season. De La Torre will join the Red Sox for the second time this season. Earlier in the year, he allowed two runs in two innings pitched.
With Mortensen hitting the disabled list, Clay Buchholz avoids that fate after he left Saturday's game with discomfort in his neck.
