BOSTON - Rusney Castillo signed on the dotted line Saturday afternoon, officially making him a member of the Red Sox for the next seven years.

Castillo, 27, hit .319 with 75 doubles, 11 triples, 51 home runs, 99 walk, 256 runs, and 76 stolen bases in 360 games over five seasons in Cuba's major league, Serie Nacional.

He hasn't played organized baseball since the 2012-13 season, when he hit .274 with six home runs and 29 RBI over 68 games.

John Farrell said before the game that he met with Castillo, who was excited to get things started. Farrell also said that when the team did sign Castillo, he'd play for one of the affiliates.

Now we know Castillo will report to extended spring training in Fort Myers in the coming days, according to the team.

Alex Speier of WEEI.com has the details of the contract which is backloaded. The last year of the deal is a player option ($13.5 million).
