BOSTON - Red Sox shortstop Stephen Drew hasn't played since June 28 because of hamstring tightness. Manager John Farrell said Thursday that Drew is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday against the Yankees at Fenway Park after two minor-league appearances.
"He will DH nine innings tonight [Thursday] for Double-A Portland]," said Farrell. "He'll play shortstop [for Portland] tomorrow [Friday], six-to-seven innings, travel back to us, and barring anything unforeseen, we anticipate him in the lineup Saturday."
Drew went 1-for-4 with an RBI double for Portland on Thursday.
Drew, 30, who signed a one-year, $9.6 million deal with the Red Sox in the offseason, is hitting .233 in 66 games with Boston.
