BOSTON -- The mid-summer temperatures seemed to heat up the Red Sox' bats Wednesday night. The Red Sox bats bashed out 16 hits -- including four homers, one more than the previous night -- and cruised to an easy 15-5 demolition of the Florida Marlins.
The win was the fourth straight for the Red Sox and sixth in their last seven, lifting them two games over the .500 mark for the first time since June 3. It was the club's fourth win in five tries against the Marlins this season and improved the Sox' record to 8-6 in interleague play.
The Marlins scored runs in both of the first two innings, but the Sox opened a large lead by the fourth, helped by the long ball.
Mike Aviles launched a three-run shot into the Monster Seats in the second and two innings later, David Ortiz drilled a homer into the seats in right field for his 11th career grand slam and 396th homer of his career.
Two batters later, Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a solo shot to straightaway center. Will Middlebrooks, who didn't start the game, smacked a two-run homer in the eighth.
Daniel Nava collected four hits and four others -- Ryan Kalish, Saltalamacchia, Kevin Youkilis and Aviles -- collected two hits.
Felix Doubront, knocked around for four runs on nine hits in six innings, nonetheless defeated the Marlins for the second time in eight days, having defeated them in Miami last week. He won for the fourth time in his last five starts and tied Clay Buchholz for the team lead in victories with eight.
