BOSTON - The final word on Dustin Pedroia will have to wait for now.

Pedroia left during Friday's game against the Rays in the 10th inning after hurting his right hand taking a throw from catcher A.J. Pierzynski on Wil Myers' steal in the fourth inning.

He is not in Saturday's starting lineup, instead getting an MRI on the hand.

"He went for x-rays this morning which were negative," John Farrell said, "and the fact that we've held them out of the lineup - at least the starting lineup - we're taking advantage of the available time and he's going through an MRI as we speak."

Farrell wasn't ready to make any predictions on what Pedroia's status would be during Saturday's game or in the near future.

"I think we'll get a better read after we get the results of the MRI back," Farrell said. "Hopefully this is just a day-to-day situation."

Jonathan Herrera is starting at second base for the Sox and batting 9th.

Here's the full lineup:

Brock Holt, 3B
Xander Bogaerts, SS
A.J. Pierzynski, C
David Ortiz, DH
Mike Carp, 1B
Jonny Gomes, LF
Grady Sizemore, RF
Jackie Bradley Jr., CF
