FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Each day, each game, Grady Sizemore is slowly ramping up on the field. During Tuesday's 8-0 loss to the Rays, he got three plate appearances, recorded two putouts in the outfield and played almost five full innings.

So far, so good.

"The more reps I get, the better," said Sizemore. "Everything felt good today."

"He's getting down the line well," said John Farrell. "One thing that continues to impress given the amount of time off, is his timing in the box looks not like a guy who's missed two years. He's running well, he's responding to the workloads as we continue to ramp it up and he'll be back on the field on Friday."

Sizemore said his swing is "getting there. Obviously, I don't expect to be [in] mid-season [form] right now. I'm just trying to get the feel back, the timing. Everything feels a little off, but that's to be expected. I'm happy with how things are feeling from a body standpoint. I'm not noticing anything out there, not having any pain, not coming in and feeling worse the next day, so that's as good as I could hope for."
