BOSTONCody Ross smashed two three-run home runs, leading the Red Sox to a 10-1 win over the White Sox at Fenway Park Wednesday night.Ross went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and six RBI. It was the 10th multi-home run game of his career, third this season. The six RBI were his second-highest total in a game. He tallied seven RBI twice before, in 2006, once while with the Dodgers, and once with the Marlins.Felix Doubront was the beneficiary of Ross outburst, earning the win. He went six innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Doubront improves to 10-4, lowering his ERA to 4.24. He leads the staff in wins.Adrian Gonzalez assisted Ross on offense, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI.Doubront has become the Sox stopper. He is now 5-0 in eight starts after a loss. But Doubront extended a disconcerting trend for Red Sox pitchers. The lone run he allowed came in the first inning. Sox pitchers have allowed at least one run in the first inning of 15 of last 17 games at Fenway since June 10, including the last 10 in a row. In all, Sox pitchers have given up 76 first-inning runs, their highest one-inning total. By comparison, the Sox offense has scored just 56 runs, for a minus-20 run differential.None of that mattered on this night, though. With the score tied in the third inning, no outs and Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford on base after both had singled, Ross came to the plate facing White Sox starter Pedro Hernandez, who was making his major league debut. Hernandez had Ross down, 0-and-2. But an 89-mph fastball didnt fool Ross, who crushed his 14th home run of the season.Facing Hernandez again the next inning, with two outs and Pedro Ciriaco (single) on third and Ellsbury on first (single), Ross sent a 3-and-1 splitter over the wall. Gonzalez followed that with his eighth home run of the season. With 15, Ross has more home runs this season than he had last season (14) with the Giants in almost exactly half the games, 62 and 121, respectively. It was the 10th multi-home run game of his career, and third this season.Gonzalez drove in the first run, scoring Ellsbury with a two-out single in the first. He added a two-run single in the sixth, scoring Crawford, who was hit by a pitch, and Ross (double).Ellsbury went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
