The July 31 trade deadline is a little more than 24 hours away and it is still highly uncertain what the Red Sox' course of action will be on that front.

If you're one in favor of the organization making a bold move though, you might find this somewhat interesting.

As MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports, a source has told him that Boston is not only interested in Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton, but that Sox brass may be privy to unloading "whatever it takes" to obtain the right fielder from Miami.

The Red Sox name has certainly come up in plenty of trade talks, as the 63-44 squad could be looking for some added help to bolster a roster that many feel at this point is not of World Series caliber. But most of those developments have involved pitchers, as the Sox look to aid their makeshift starting rotation and strength their shaky bullpen in one deal.

This rumor involves a player who is one of the most valuable young commodities in the entire league, a slugger who has belted an astounding 106 HRs in 435 career games and could add another dimension to an already stout batting order. If the Sox want to even fathom obtaining Stanton's services, they will likely have to give up a lot.

How much exactly?

Well, Miami will probably need four or five players at least in return for Stanton to consider a deal, and the players they want will not be a bunch of scrubs. Boston, in all likelihood, would have to clear out the cream of the crop in their farm system, parting ways with their top four or five prospects to get a deal done.

That would mean goodbyes to Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley, Allen Webster, Henry Owens, a quartet that has created a lot of buzz in the Boston area. Even if the Sox could offer up a player on their big league roster (like Will Middlebrooks), the Marlins would still ask for the top few prospects in the farm system.

This deal would certainly be a risky one. The Marlins have repeatedly emphasized their unwillingness to trade Stanton and the Sox have held firm in their desire to keep Bogaerts and Bradley no matter the offer.

It would take a huge leap for such a trade to go through, but weirder things have happened in this league.

All we can say is stay tuned. If this rumor has any validity, this could be a crazy 24 hours.
