With the injury to Stephen Drew and the struggles of Will Middlebrooks, the Red Sox called up Jonathan Diaz on Saturday to play third base against the Blue Jays. But the team is reportedly looking for more infield depth.
According to the New York Post, the Red Sox want Phillies infielder Michael Young "badly."
Young is hitting .289 with five home runs and 21 RBI in 74 games for the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 36-year-old has played all four infield positions in his career, but has been used primarily as a third baseman for the Phillies this season.
Even though the Phillies are 39-42 entering play on Saturday, GM Ruben Amaro Jr. has said throughout the season that he doesn't believe the team will be sellers.
