Red Sox prospect Bryce Brentz was expected in Major League camp this spring, but he wont be attending after suffering an injury during the offseason.

According to Alex Speier of WEEI, Brentz's absence from camp is due to an injury suffered after an accidental discharge of a weapon he was cleaning. Although he would not explain the injury, he described it as "nothing serious."

Everything is fine, Brentz explained. After the rookie program, I had an accident. Everything is fine, but I was cleaning my gun and it accidentally discharged on me and I sustained an injury. Nothing serious. Thats why I was out of big league camp, because at the time Im not able to participate fully, but I am recovering very fast and should be OK for the season.Thats all I can really comment oneverything is fine. Im just recovering and thats why Im not able to participate in big league spring training. The 24-year-old outfielder is still expected to be ready for the start of the season.
