The Red Sox have pared the number of big-league players in camp down to 52 after making a few minor moves on Tuesday.
Both outfielder Alex Hassan and knuckleballer Steven Wright were optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday. Also, first baseman/outfielder Mark Hamilton and outfielders Jeremy Hazelbaker and Juan Carlos Linares were reassigned to minor league camp, general manager Ben Cherington announced. Minor league spring training games begin tomorrow so it makes sense to start dropping players down from big-league camp.
Now 37 players from the 40-man roster are still in big-league camp, with one on 60-day disabled list, and 14 non-roster invitees.
