FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Some notes from Wednesday’s early workout before tonight’s game against the Orioles in Sarasota:

  • Left-hander Felix Doubront had a successful live batting practice session and is expected to start Monday against the Rays. The Red Sox rotation is now Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Dempster, Doubront, and John Lackey. This would give Lester an extra day of rest before Opening Day in Yankee Stadium. Having Lackey fifth, rather than Doubront, also allows the Sox to separate the two lefties, Lester and Doubront.

  • Outfielder Ryan Kalish is free of the sling that he had been using to support and protect his surgically repaired right shoulder. Kalish underwent arthroscopic surgery on Jan. 30 to repair a labrum tear. Dr. Lewis Yocum performed the procedure in Los Angeles.

Wednesday was Kalish’s first day without the sling. While it represents progress, he is not expected back for at least six more months.

  • The Red Sox installed a large billboard on the bullpen backstop, directly outside the major league clubhouse. “Legendary” is written across the sign, with the likenesses of former Sox players Johnny Pesky (who would have turned 94 today), Jim Rice, Carlton Fisk, Ted Williams, Luis Tiant, Dwight Evans, Jason Varitek, Joe Cronin, Bobby Doerr, Tim Wakefield, Carl Yastrzemski, Pedro Martinez, and Tony Conigliaro.

  • The Major League Baseball Players Association is scheduled to make its annual visit to Red Sox camp March 4.

  • Tonight’s lineup against the Orioles:

Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
Shane Victorino, RF
Will Middlebrooks, 3B
Stephen Drew, SS
Jonny Gomes, LF
Daniel Nava, 1B
Mark Hamilton, DH
Left-hander Franklin Morales is expected to start, going one inning with about 20 pitches. He will be followed by left-hander Drake Britton (two innings, 35 pitches), Junichi Tazawa, Joel Hanrahan, Koji Uehara, Andrew Bailey, and Andrew Miller.

  • The Sox have added a ‘B’ game for 10 am Thursday against the Twins at Hammond County Stadium. The lineup:

Deven Marrero, SS
Justin Henry, 2B
Travis Shaw, 1B
Kolbrin Vitek, 3B
Keury De La Cruz, RF
Brandon Jacobs, LF
Tony Thomas, DH
Shannon Wilkerson, CF
Carson Blair, C
The pitcher has yet to be announced, but will be a minor leaguer not in big league camp.
