BOSTON -- Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine gave several injury updates prior to Saturday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park:
Carl Crawford (wristelbow) hit off a tee yesterday and today, and will begin throwing in two weeks.
"He swung a little yesterday, he felt good," said Valentine. "He's swinging more today. He's excited and feeling good."
Outfielder Ryan Sweeney (concussion) has passed his league-mandated concussion test and now has clearance to resume baseball activities. Valentine said that he "took it slow" today.
Outfielder Ryan Kalish (shoulder)played five innings as a designated hitter for Salem today. The plan for him is "one step at a time."
"We'd like him to have success, obviously, but the first step is to play pain free, be healthy, and then start putting up some numbers," said Valentine.
