BRADENTON, Fla. – Some quick hitters from the Red Sox’ 7-6 loss to the Pirates on Tuesday:

Matt Barnes, who pitched in a college game, is being kept off the mound this week because of some shoulder soreness.

Mike Carp and Bryce Brent hit two-run homers to account for four of the six Red Sox runs.

Henry Owens worked the eighth and gave up the go-ahead run. "He got behind in a fastball count," said John Farrell, "and particularly to lefties, he's kind of staying in one spot. But this is a young guy who's getting his feet wet in this kind of environment. I thought his poise and mound presence overall was very solid, so I'm not going to take too much out of this."
